Coming Soon…

Yes, I have been gone for awhile.  I blame Fallout 3 and Oblivion and Fable 2, hmm, maybe I should just blame the whole thing on the xbox 360 we purchased recently.  Couldn’t be my fault, I’m just an innocent victim here.  :p

I do have a few things in the works though.  Thoughts on Win 7, my new 360, fallout 3, fable 2, the next installment of our digital conversion as well as Android 1.5 (if I ever get it… *shakes fist at T-Mobile*).  So, yea, lots of stuff going on in house and as always my own take on the tech industry and anything else I feel like poking fun at.

Some of this will be here and some will be over at Tech Breaker and I can be followed on twitter as well.

This Week in meh…

Amazon announces the Kindle 2!  Thinner, better battery, sexier? and almost $400 for an ebook reader?  No thank you.  I wrote my first Java program.  Yes it was the simple little “Hello World” app, so now I am as proficient in Java as any monkey in the Columbus Zoo.  The Office of His Holiness the Dali Lama is now on Twitter.  Oh, yea except that Twitter says it’s just another faker.  Another juicy nearly trillion dollar bailout package is making it way through the government channels.  I’m sooo glad to see the bozos that run the failed companies and institutions getting another chance to spend billions in taxpayer money with zero accountability.  Damn, I’m depressing myself…

The T-Mobile G1 is still pretty rockin’ IMHO.  Got the RC33 update and not only do I have Google Voice Search and Latitude (latitude = meh for me), I also get a notification when one of my Marketplace apps has an update available, now that is pretty sweet.  I’m checking out the ChompSMS app and I’m really liking the on-screen keyboard implementation it uses.  I also like SkyMap.  With it I figured out that the bright “star” that I was seeing in the west was actually Venus.  I guess it could be Uranus since they are close in the sky right now but I tend to doubt that Uranus is visible.  I’ll wait and see if the green comet coming later this month will show up in SkyMap.  I’m debating on whether or not to hack android to get multi-touch in the browser.  Seems like it would be kinda cool but it’s not a compelling thing for me right now.

One last thing, I made it into the alpha test group for Boxee on Windows and I am really liking this program so far.  It is very similar to XBox Media Center but seems to work better already and is implemented very well.  All from within one interface I can check out the movies on my pc, streaming video from Youtube, CBS, ahem.. public domain movies from Bit Torrent and even Hulu etc and it has a community popping up that seems pretty cool.  Netflix soon I hope…

Signing off for now.

Internet Services worth a crap 2

OK, so Twitter is one of those things that you either love or hate and is talked about adnausium on many websites and podcasts.  I completely didn’t get the use of twitter partly because no one that I personaly know, uses it.  Most of my friends are not very tech/net savvy and to be completely honest I am really bad at maintaining interpersonal relationships.  Factor in that I tend to dislike canned news from the major networks and that Twitter is not very user friendly without getting some 3rd party help.  Enter Mr Tweet.

Mr Tweet is a free service that scans your followers and followed.  It then makes a list of recommended people for you to follow that may be of interest.  It generally only takes a few hours for this process could take a week or so, in the case of Leo Laporte who is following 600 people and is followed by 60,000+ people.  Now that I have been able to easily find other people on Twitter that have similar interests and who actually share those interests via tweets (a message on Twitter is called a tweet), Twitter has become much more useful to me.
